Hydraulic Crowning Systems
- Complete guide to the CNC hydraulic crowning system and Deflection Compensation on sheet metal bending
Superior Material Quality
Real time dynamic deflection compensation use multiple synchronized cylinders along the bed to apply dynamic compensation. When connected to the CNC controller of the press brake, they automatically adjust throughout each bending cycle based on preprogrammed profiles or real-time data. This gives you the most accuracy and flexibility possible.
Features of the CNC hydraulic crowning system:
During the bending phase, the correct crowning is calculated by the CNC and applied in real time, based on direct feedback from pressure sensors located in the press brake’s ram & bed. The multiple hydraulic crowning cylinders located within the lower bed frame allow to counter the ram deflection.
Hydraulic Crowning Adjustment
CNC Programming:
- Program the controller with compensation values that are tailored to the material
- Store compensation profiles for different materials and thicknesses
- Set up automatic parameter selection based on job requirements
- Conduct systematic testing to establish baseline compensation curves
More Advanced Features:
- Implement adaptive algorithms that learn from production results
- Utilize feedback sensors to monitor real-time deflection
- Integrate with quality control systems for continuous improvement
Advantages of Hydraulic Crowning:
- Flexibility: Real-time adjustment from the control panel
- Speed: Rapid changeovers between different part types
- Precision: ±0.0005″ repeatability vs ±0.002″ for mechanical
- Integration: Seamless connection with CNC controllers
Best Uses of Hydraulic Crowning:
- Job shop operations with frequent setup changes
- Wide variety of materials and thickness ranges
- Customer-specific quality requirements
- High-mix production environments
How Press Brake Deflection Affects the Quality of the Bend
Press brake deflection occurs when the machine’s ram and bed flex under bending forces, especially when working with heavy loads on long workpieces. This causes the “canoe effect,” which means that the ends of the workpiece get more bending force than the middle, which makes the bend angles uneven.
Common types
▶ Hydraulic crowning
▶ Mechanical Crowning
Bendmax Hydraulic crowning systems
There are a number of things that affect deflection in physics:
Machine tonnage: Higher forces create proportionally greater deflection
Workpiece length: Longer parts amplify deflection effects across the bend line
Material thickness: Thicker materials require higher tonnage, increasing deflection
Press brake rigidity: Machine design determines deflection resistance
